Important things to know about permeable or water-resistant shade sail fabrics

The most common type of fabric used in shade sails is Water Resistant, also known as Permeable. Unlike WATER PROOF fabric, permeable fabric allows a small amount of water to pass through it. The fabric is actually a fine mesh (weave) of very strong strands. It’s a popular choice for many reasons including:

Huge choice of colours: Permeable fabric comes in so many colours you’ll have no trouble finding something that compliments your home or business perfectly.

Choice of UV Protection: You also have a wide range of UV Protection from as high as an amazing 98% block out.

Super Strong: Each strand is commercial quality and carefully woven together to form an exceptionally strong fabric.

Fade Resistant: Even the darkest colour will maintain its individual pigment in the harsh Brisbane conditions. It will look good for years.

Excellent Ventilation: Permeable fabric allows the breeze to flow through it. This helps to cool your environment maximizing the air flow (allows hot air to rise away from the area you are shading).

Stronger in high winds: Because permeable fabric allows air to pass through, it can be more suitable in high wind conditions. That doesn’t mean you should leave your sail intact during a cyclone. Even permeable sails will ‘catch the breeze’ (like a sail on a boat) – it just won’t be as affected because some of the wind will pass through. This also lessens the pressure on the fixing points.
